Telecare
The Telecare Scheme is a special project operating within the Northern Neighbourhoods Health Action Zone. The scheme uses innovations in technology to support older people to live independently and safely in their own homes.
The Telecare Scheme was designed in response to needs identified in relation to older people during the NNHAZ Action Planning work in 2001 and 2002.
A Steering Group, made up of representatives from the voluntary and statutory sector, was set up to oversee the design and implementation of the scheme within NNHAZ. This team considered how recent innovations in technology might be used to support older people to maintain their independence within their own homes for a longer period of time.
The Telecare Scheme is currently active across all 14 NNHAZ areas. The lead partner in this scheme is Fold. This project is unique in that communities were involved in identifying the older and vulnerable residents within their neighbourhoods who could be eligable for the scheme.
